ReplyDeleteMy MIL gave me a knitted leopardskin sweater 3 sizes too small!
ReplyDeleteThe weirdest was a liquor decanter in the shape of a train. I'm hoping it'll be worth mucho $$ at Antiques Roadshow after I'm gone!
ReplyDeleteA Cookie Monster cookie jar! Guess that was hint!
ReplyDeleteFunniest gift I've ever gotten??? A level...funny to most but to me it was precious. My hubby got me a level so that I could make sure my cakes were level before I finished icing them!! He is a little OCD!
ReplyDeletestep daughter bought me a beautiful suit , but couldn't wear it through the boobies
ReplyDeleteMy great aunt forgot to buy me a gift for my wedding shower so on the way out her door she grabbed a blue swan candy dish out of her basebment to give to me!

DeleteOne year my friends surprised me with a male dancer for my birthday, while we were at a local lounge.
ReplyDeleteI follow you via email.
DeleteOne year for Christmas all my mother gave me was a tacky ceramic angel candleholder. It wasn't something you would have ever expected to see in her house or mine. I have no idea where it came from but my SIL couldn't stop snickering about it... she laughed at it every year when I put it out with its stinky candle it came with.
ReplyDeleteGosh I don't know that I've ever received anything too wired. For my 16th birthday all my friends got me makeup. That was when I was allowed to wear it, hehe.
ReplyDeleteAwesome giveaway!

At my first husbands Grandma came to the brides party. She told me she had taken care of entertainment. Unbeknownst to me 6 of his cousins where Chippendales Dance! Grandma was in her 90's handing me dollars. I had never seen such a thing but it was great fun! The next day I was a little red in the face at the wedding when all these beautiful men came and congratulated use. I told my husband what happened and he died laughing I was not the first to get grandma's gift the night before the wedding! Great gift! I love Crafty!
ReplyDeleteAn aunt of mine gave me the weirdest necklace for my birthday once, a necklace bottle with carrots and bunny!
ReplyDeleteWhen I was 22, I worked for a young attorney who knew that I "knitted" (I'm a quilter and have never knitted in my life) so he wanted to give me something that was handmade. He asked one of the other paralegals where he should go and she directed him to a craft show in the next town that was known for high quality items. He bought me hand -knitted boot slippers in the ugliest variegated colors any of us had ever seen. He was really proud of himself and asked me if I had ever made anything like them. I could honestly say I hadn't. At least his intentions were in the right place.
ReplyDeleteoh, and I'm a follower also
DeleteI'm a new follower. I can't recall anything totally weird - a few gag gifts, but not off the wall strange, Thanks for sharing. I'd love to win this prize.
ReplyDeleteOne funny/strange/wierd gift I recieved was a broken Halloween cookie jar. A friend of mine had ordered it and part of the lid was broken, so she ordered a new one and thought I might like the broken one. This is after she knows I am not a big Halloween fan. senstrings at yahoo dot com
ReplyDeleteI can remember as a teenager receiving a pair of slippers that were both left feet! (from my Grandma)......I still think it must have been her playing a trick on me!

My husband bought me a giant stainless steel bowl for my birthday once. He said I could mix 3 batches of bread in it and save a lot of time. It only looked like "more work" to me at a time when I felt I already had too much to do. But, boy, has it come in handy over the years as we raised our 7 sons. I am a follower.
ReplyDeleteLove it........
ReplyDeleteWool socks...men's GIANT size, very scratchy. My cute hubby gave them to me for Christmas many years ago. When asked ? he said well, thought these would keep your feet warm as you say they are always cold.
ReplyDeleteI follow your blog and think this is a great chance to win a Craftsy class. I received a cookbook almost forty years ago as my friend thought it would be useful in my new apt. I still have it but still haven't learned to cook. Wonder if it's time to do so.
ReplyDeleteThe weirdest gift was a can of hairspray...not sure if she was trying to tell me something or not...!
ReplyDeleteyessewingisrun@yahoo.com
One year a was given a lifejacket. Guess that ment I was going fishing.

I always hung Christmas stockings for everyone in the family and filled them all except mine. In mine one year I had stored the extra lights for the tree. On Christmas morning, my daughter was very upset that all mommy got was light bulbs. Now,only the kids get stockings.
ReplyDeleteThe weirdest gift was a pair of very colorful socks that looked like gloves…who wants to separate each of their toes and then try to fit them into their shoes or sneakers?!? (so uncomfortable!!!)

My husband gave me an emergency kit for the car. A cold (snow) weather kit with a little shovel for digging out, de-icer, etc....... We live in Central Texas. Yeah, I still don't get it. LOL (Sorry, I am not sure how to be a follower)
ReplyDeleteMy great aunt in her 70s gave me a blown glass mushroom that looked like a man thingy. REALLY looked like one and said I noticed you needed a paperweight on your desk and I can't wait to see it there. So...thingy went in desk drawer just in case she swung by. No way was it staying out.
ReplyDeleteThe first Christmas I was married my husband bought me a sweater...I wore a medium and this sweater was from the larger women's department, size XXL. I could have fit 3 of me into the sweater and it hung down to my knees! Hmmm, he has never bought me clothing again!!! Thanks for the great giveaway...I am a happy follower via email.
ReplyDeleteSome people keep their quilt/craft projects in large zip-top bags, some use (clean) pizza boxes. I keep mine in the boxes frozen corndogs come in. I have lots and lots of corndog boxes, and most people I "play" with have commented over the years about my choice of storage. :-)
ReplyDeleteLast Christmas at our Guild's holiday party, one of my friends gave me a wrapped present. When I unwrapped it, I found a corndog box - everyone in the room hooted with laughter because it was so appropriate. But when I opened the box, the room exploded - my friend had found 2 yards of fabric with corndogs on it!
This will be one of the best and most remembered gifts for a long time!
Hmm. When I was a third grade teacher I got all sorts of crazy (and lots of awesome) gifts from the kids. I'm drawing a blank right now, but I do remember the bag of homemade "fudge" (mostly crumbs) I got from a very excited and well meaning student. She told me she made it herself. I never tried it. 😝
ReplyDeleteI received a kitchen sink for my birthday one year. :-)
ReplyDeleteNot a gift I received but one my father gave. (He was gifted at gag gifts) My uncle lost his glasses near a friend's dock while visiting us on vacation. They were eventually found so my father bought a stuffed fish and put the glasses on it. He sent it to my uncle for his birthday!
ReplyDeleteForgot to tell about my gift. Can't really think of one. My kids are always giving me quilting books which I love!
ReplyDeleteDon't know what happened to my first comment where I commented on how bright and cheerful the quilt is. I love it!
ReplyDeleteI have been racking my brains to think of a weird or funny gift I have received and I cannot! I expect I will as soon as I have posted this comment though.
